I’m an art director and designer based in NYC. With twenty years of experience, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, ranging from VFX and commercials to broadcast and film. I now focus on design and art direction for entertainment branding.

My approach to design is multi-faceted. Because design is about life and not merely visuals, I like to pull inspiration from many places. Art, design, fashion, music, books, film, thoughts, conversations around me. Not just visually, but conceptually and rhythmically as well.
Typically, I start without any visuals at all. Using words and sketches, I start to shape concepts and ideas. Once I feel like it’s getting somewhere, then I go digital and start ideating. This is truly my favorite part. I also like bringing in different mediums when appropriate. Mixing traditional media like paint and ink with digital elements results in an interesting dimensionality. I’ll sometimes build and shoot elements instead of making them digitally.
My superpower is being able to take in all types of information – formal briefs and marketing data, a passing comment in a client call or a pencil sketch over zoom, and turning it all into a cohesive design solution.
I grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Since completing my BFA at Parsons School of Design and working in the industry, I’ve now spent an equal amount of my life in KL and NYC. Two large, international cities. Both very different, and also very same-same, as we say back home.
Being able to understand and reference Eastern and Western culture has helped me immensely in my design practice. The ability to speak several languages has attuned me to nuances in messaging, so important in our global landscape. (It also makes me glitch sometimes, trying to decide which language to speak in!)
Like most Malaysians, food is my kryptonite. It’s very possible to bribe me with good food! And cat videos. Send me cat videos and we’ll be instant friends!
I paint when I can. In my art practice, it’s a similar mixed-media approach. I’m interested in the combination of digital and traditional media, and enjoy moving back and forth between canvas and pixels. The dream? To split my time 50/50 between design and art. But for now, weekends and paint are my happy place.
